Valencia has won the pulse of Andorra -the other great candidate- and has been chosen to host the final tournament of the Endesa League which will decide the champion it's from the season. The decision has been made by the executive of ACB who has communicated it to the clubs at a meeting held online this afternoon and in which it has also been decided to continue with the tournament since it is understood that the health situation allows its dispute.
There were nine applicants to host the event, which will concentrate in two weeks the twelve best teams in the league in search of the title, but only 4 really had options to be chosen. The favorites, Valencia and Andorra were fighting until the end, with Zaragoza and the Canary Islands as last-minute alternatives.
The health model of the neighboring country placed Andorra at the forefront of ACB preferences for many days . Without infections and with a very effective massive test system, the Principality practically ensured that there were no infections during the tournament. This medical aspect has not been sufficient, since Valencia won the game for its unsurpassed sports infrastructure .
To the pavilion of the Fuente de San Luis the city of Turia united the basketball courts of in its offer «L'Alquería »the spectacular Valencia Basket facility that has up to 9 tracks to train. Only three of them have baskets with anchorage to the ground, like the ones required by the ACB in its specifications but all the others are perfect for carrying out warm-ups and workouts with less demand.
The ACB already held a meeting last week, but did not find the expected consensus and decided to defer its decision pending the collection of more information to offer to the clubs . That information was put on the table today and led to the election of Valencia, which will host the tournament to which the clubs also gave the green light at the same meeting.
The idea of the city is now to prepare in the best possible way for that tournament. An attempt will be made to create a kind of sanitary bubble avoiding any contact between the players and team members with the outside world. In fact, a hotel will be placed at the disposal of the ACB, where a health center will also be installed to carry out routine checks and tests, if necessary.
The ACB wants to start that tournament in mid-June (on the 15th or the 22nd) and concentrate the players a week earlier, to have them quarantined after having tested them . In those same conditions would be the rest of the ACB workers and staff members who must work for the tournament to go ahead.
After having passed to phase 1 only a few days ago, the Valencian Community will now fight to be stabilized in phase 2 when the start of the tournament arrives, the date of which has not yet been decided .
