The last days of Vicente Calderón



It is the last hours of the Vicente Calderón stadium. The old house of all the followers of Atlético de Madrid is living its last days after the long demolition process that has been carried out. The works are in the final phase of the demolition of the last stand that stands, the one that overlooked the Manzanares river and flew over the M-30 in Madrid.

Of the football complex that occupied the block delimited by the Duque de Tovar street (north), Paseo de los Melancólicos (east), San Epifanio street (south) and Paseo de la Virgen del Puerto (west), there is hardly anything left. Only half of the west tier covered by the visor.

It is the so-called preferred tier. It was the last part of the stadium that was completed there in 1972. In that sector were all the main premises of the stadium, the old club offices, the presidential box, the entrance and exit of the changing rooms, the benches and the press room. .

The Calderón was inaugurated on October 2, 1966 . And it was Atlético's stadium for 51 years, until the 2016/17 season. In the 2017/18 campaign it changed its headquarters to Wanda Metropolitano.

The last official match of the stadium competition, was Atlético-Athletic (3–1) corresponding to day 38 of the League.
