Postponed Euro 2020, a boon for the Blues?

Postponed Euro 2020, a boon for the Blues? 5

There is little doubt now: Euro 2020 should be postponed. The coming summer should indeed allow the completion of club competitions suspended due to the coronavirus, which could be entirely beneficial to the French team of Didier Deschamps.

Last November 30, during the draw for the competition, luck had not been on the side of the French team . For the group stage of the Euro 2020 the Blues were supposed to face Germany in Munich, then a roadblocker whose identity was to be known at the end of March, and Portugal in Hungary. This roadmap will not change for the world champions, even if the competition is postponed by a year.

This issue now seems inevitable, as club football is now stopped, whether for the national championships or for European competitions. And everything should be regularized later, by encroaching on the summer period. The preparation that the national teams were to begin in May, and even as early as March with windows reserved for friendlies and play-offs, is completely in question since some of its confrontations are already canceled, and the others should follow.

Too many injured for two years

Euro 2020 should therefore be forgotten, and Didier Deschamps may not necessarily be unhappy with this situation, despite the reasons leading to this outcome. Because France was not gone to present itself in the best conditions for this competition. Since the victory in the World Cup in 2018, the French people have multiplied serious injuries, serious even for some. Hugo Lloris, Raphaël Varane Samuel Umtiti, Lucas Hernandez, Benjamin Mendy Paul Pogba Corentin Tolisso, N'Golo Kanté, Ousmane Dembélé and Florian Thauvin have all experienced one or more complicated periods since the Russian campaign.

For the coming summer, Thauvin, Pogba, Hernandez or Umtiti could not prepare in the best conditions, due to the lack of playing time. Kanté, Griezmann, Giroud, Kimpembe or Lemar have been less visible than in the more or less recent past with their respective clubs. And what about Dembélé, already forced to forfeit. In a year, the situation may have changed for these Blues, unless this cascade of injuries continues to persist.
