Today marks the 30th anniversary of the Argentine team's debut against Cameroon for the 1990 World Cup in Italy . It was not easy, however, for the team that came from being champion in Mexico in 1986.
Those led by Bilardo fell in their World Cup start by 1 to 0 in Milan to the surprise of many. And last night, Diego Maradona shared his memory of those days with a strong message.
"Almost 30 years after the debut in Italy 90, I think it is a lie the sacrifice that all the boys made to reach the World Cup in the best conditions," the gymnastics coach began explaining on his Instagram account.
"Ruggeri with pubalgia; Burruchaga, Checho Batista, Vasquito Olarticoechea and Giusti, touched; and me without a nail on the big toe of my right foot, not to mention the fracture of Nery Pumpido. Although we did not have the best start, nor the dream ending, the team gave everything they had. And I'm sure we would do it again today, "the coach completed, along with a video of him training the days before debut.
The Argentine National Team had to fight hard to reach the final thanks to the good performances of referents such as Goycochea or Claudio Caniggia. The title, however, remained in the hands of Germany after winning the deciding match 1-0.
